Greener means safer theatre lighting for Young People's touring company

Half Moon Young People’s Theatre is the UK’s leading small-scale young people’s venue and touring company. They are based in Tower Hamlets and utilise drama as a tool for learning and personal development for young people, including young people with disabilities.

It’s unusual for Postcode Local Trust to receive an application from a theatre company, but the sustainability benefits were clear. They wanted to ‘green’ the lighting in their building, including the traditional theatre lights which eat up electricity.

The desired outcome was a more environmentally friendly venue and lower electricity bills, leaving more funding for supporting vulnerable young people, however the group have also been able to use their new sustainable LED lighting when visiting schools, as opposed to the traditional theatre lights that are known to heat up.
