The Bees are Buzzing in Blackburn
Through funding from Postcode Local Trust, Rooftop Bees were able to introduce a non-profit community apiary providing controlled public access to outdoor space for the local community.
This apiary is open to all residents of the borough and has the following aims. To educate the community on beekeeping and pollinators. To help tackle loneliness in the borough by providing free access to a local community group. To promote community integration, regardless of race, age, gender, disability, social, economic background or ethnicity and combating discrimination in this proud town.
The activities include regular meetings and training sessions where service users are able to meet the bees up close, narrated live hive openings and educational talks, fundraising and social events in the outdoor learning space.
